This easy strawberry chia jam only requires 4 ingredients and 12 minutes of your time. It is healthy, refined sugar free and vegan! This jam is the perfect addition to your pancakes, waffles, yogurt and more!
Today I had to share with you my new obsession -> strawberry chia jam! I love jam, especially with fresh bread and butter because it reminds me of France (my home country). However, store-bought jam is packed with added sugar and therefore I consider it a treat and do not eat it everyday. I wanted to find a healthy alternative that I could make at home with fresh strawberries (they are so good right now!) and that had no added sugar.
This strawberry chia jam is exactly that! It is made of only 4 ingredients, tastes so fresh and can be eaten guilt-free. It is actually refined sugar free, dairy free, vegan, and nutrient-dense. Basically it is super healthy and good for you, and yes you can just eat it with a spoon if you want!
WHAT INGREDIENTS WILL YOU NEED FOR THIS CHIA JAM?
- Strawberries: I personally prefer fresh strawberries, I find they taste better, but frozen strawberries work really well for this recipe too!
- Chia seeds: chia seeds are the key ingredient in this recipe. When they come in contact with liquids, they expand and give a gel like texture. They are also a big source of nutrients in this recipe; they are packed with omega-3, are a source of protein, fibres and antioxidants.
- Lemon juice: the lemon juice adds a bit of acidity to the mix and adds tanginess to the flavour.
- Maple syrup: I like to add a bit of maple syrup to my jam for sweetness but you could leave it out if you’d rather a completely no sugar added jam. And if you don’t have maple syrup, you can replace it with honey in a 1:1 ratio.
HOW TO MAKE THIS STRAWBERRY CHIA JAM?
This strawberry chia jam is really easy and quick to make! Place a saucepan on medium heat and add the whole strawberries. Cook them for a few minutes and mash them a bit with your spoon. (I like my jam a little chunky so I don’t mash my berries too much but if you’d rather a smoother jam, use a potato masher and mash them as much as you want).
When the juices start bubbling, turn the heat off but leave the pan on the burner. Add the chia seeds, lemon juice and maple syrup. Give a good stir and let the mixture sit for ~5 minutes. Transfer the thicken jam to an airtight container and let it sit in the fridge for about 2 hours before serving. This allows the jam to fully set.
You can store the jam in the fridge for up to a week.
WHAT TO USE THIS STRAWBERRY CHIA JAM FOR?
I have been obsessed with using this jam for peanut butter and jelly toasts! It is so good and the strawberry jam is a nice fresh and fruity addition to it. This strawberry chia jam is also a great topping on pancakes (like these coconut chocolate chip pancakes), waffles, biscuits or crepes. And is also delicious with yogurt and granola (like this maple and pecan granola). Basically the perfect jam for all your breakfasts, brunch and snacks!
